The index reflects the dynamics of the South African stock market based on key companies traded on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). It covers a wide range of sectors of the country's economy and is nominated in the South African rand. The index is formed as a weighted basket of shares of the largest companies representing various industries. The index calculation takes into account the market capitalization adjusted for the free float of stocks.
