The index represents the continuous physically settled heating oil futures contract (FOB New York Harbor) and acts as the key benchmark for heating fuel prices in North America. In May 2026 the maximum reached 4.16 USD/gallon, the minimum stood at 3.49 USD/gallon, averaging 3.87 USD/gallon. The index is based on a rolling strip of physically delivered futures.
