Index description

A weekly index from a private supplier reflecting the change in retail trade turnover compared to the previous year, not seasonally adjusted. The data covers more than 9,000 stores in the United States, which covers approximately 80% of the retail data published monthly by the United States Department of Commerce. Because the index is released with minimal delay it is used to quickly assess the dynamics of retail trade in the United States.
