Index description

The indicator shows the change in economic activity relative to the month of previous year (YoY), seasonally adjusted. It is a leading indicator because takes into account the monthly dynamics of agriculture, industry and services. Unlike GDP, which is published only 4 times a year, with a large lag. However, it should not be confused with GDP. IBC-Br shows the trend of economic activity, not the actual value of the change in GDP for each month. Used by the Central Bank of Brazil in its monetary policy.
