The company operates in two segments, Retail and Foodservice/Other. It provides various packaged meat products, including hot dogs and corn dogs, breakfast sausages, breakfast sandwiches and bowls, dinner sausages, gourmet artisanal sausages, salami, jerky, premium deli and luncheon meats, and cooked hams; and frozen baked products and specialty items, including pies, cakes, and cheesecakes, as well as is involved in the commodity pork and turkey businesses. The company sells its products under the brand names of Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, Hillshire Farm, State Fair, Van’s, Sara Lee, and Chef Pierre, as well as artisanal brands comprising Aidells, Gallo Salame, and Golden Island Jerky. It serves supermarkets, warehouse clubs, and national chains, as well as foodservice customers, such as distributors, restaurants, hospitals, and other large institutions. The company was formerly known as Sara Lee Corporation and changed its name to The Hillshire Brands Company in June 2012. The Hillshire Brands Company was founded in 1939 and is headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois.
