Profile

The Amur Region is located in the southeast of the Russian Federation and is part of the Far Eastern Federal District. It is one of the largest subjects of the Russian Federation, occupying a border position along a long stretch with the People's Republic of China. The length of the border is almost 1,250 kilometers. The following should be noted as features of the natural potential of the region: - the presence of about 38% of agricultural land in the Far East, which allows, under certain economic conditions, to produce grain crops, soybeans, potatoes, vegetables, engage in pig farming, poultry farming and beekeeping. In the north of the region, reindeer herding and fur trade are widespread; - 64% of the region's territory is covered by forests. The raw material potential of the region in terms of timber reserves is about 1.9 billion cubic meters, the estimated cutting area suitable for economic development reaches 9.9 million cubic meters; - potential reserves of mineral raw materials in the region are estimated at 400 billion dollars. The mining industry is based on gold, coal and construction materials. The region is rich in iron and titanium ore, non-ferrous metals, aluminosilicate raw materials, zeolites, and kaolin; - the region also has significant energy potential. The Zeiskaya hydroelectric power station operates on its basis, and 4 hydroelectric units of the Bureyskaya hydroelectric power station have been commissioned; - the region's geographical location helps maintain the service orientation of the economy. The Trans-Siberian Railway with the Baikal-Amur Mainline passes through here, the Chita-Khabarovsk highway is under construction, and there are water and air transport routes connecting the Far East and the European part of Russia.
