Kurganmashzavod" joint-stock company is the biggest enterprise of Kurgan region and one of the leaders of Russian military industrial complex. The only one plant which produces military assault vehicles (BMP) and its modifications.
The plant was founded as the plant for producing heavy-duty cranes. In 1954, after the plant reconstruction, the manufacture of military equipment was started: ATS and ATS-59 artillery tractors, which were used for field work and reclaiming of oilfield in Tumen region. A lot of artillery tractors were exported. The ATS-59 artillery tractor license production was established in Poland. In October 1966, the production plan of infantry fighting vehicle BMP-1 was prescribed by the government bylaw. Since 1967, the mass production of vehicles was started.
In seventies, the plant started the capital building. New power supplies brought in, the working area increased in five times. Since 1983, the plant started the BMP-2 production, and in 1987 manufactures BMP-3.
Today, JSC "Kurganmashzavod" is the largest machine building complex, equipped by the most modern tools, which provide the full production cycle from any kind of technical processing to assembling and complex testing of ready articles.
"Kurganmashzavod" JSC means first of all the world famous BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles as well as BREM-L armored recovery vehicle and universal chassis on BMP-3 base that is used for carrying of various armament systems, aimed for the creation on its base armoured system, crew teaching means. Fighting vehicles manufactured at "Kurganmashzavod" JSC are in service of armies of 28 countries; the vehicles were highly estimated by specialists during the most prestigious international exhibitions.
The license production of BMP-1 and BMP-2 is organized with the help of our specialists in India and Slovakia. According to the decision of JSC “Kurhganmashzavod”, accepted by Defence Department, for unification of assault airborne vehicle BMD-4 with BMP-3, which are phase-in our army. The prototypes of modernized BMD-4 are produced and tested. The main peculiarity of BMD-4M is that the original power unit and driving gear are changed to standard one, used for BMP-3. It helps to decrease the expenses of airborne assault vehicle servicing in the army.
According to the marks of the military specialist, the creation of new airborne assault vehicle is the important event: the vehicle was designed in a short time. This vehicle has no analogues in the world and allows increase firepower and maneuverability of airborne Russian troops.
Now, the multifunctional armored personnel carriers BTR-MD are designed at the plant.
According to the governmental rearment program to 2015, Kurganmashzavod will produce and deliver not only BMP-3 and its modifications but also new perspective vehicles.
"Kurganmashzavod" JSC manufactures not only military vehicles but also wide range of civilian industry products: multifunctional small size steer-skid loaders 400, 600, 800, 1000kg with different hitches, snow and marsh all-terrain vehicles, car trailers. The plant is constantly developing. Among new article kinds are PK-40 and PL-60 chassis loaders, tracked chassis for road building machines, the equipment complex for reappearing and isolation of pipelines main.
Today, "Kurganmashzavod" JSC comes into new phase of its development, becoming a productive commercial complex, where the branches of military and civil development exist organically.
The joining of JSC "Kurganmashzavod" and JSC "Cheboksar aggregate plant", JSC "Promtractor" and other plants within "Concern " Tractor Plant" in April 2005 made new perspectives for the KMZ developing. The professionals of the highest level were jointed in one team.
Already now this company group comes to the first place among the agricultural and machine building plants by its output.
