Profile

Samvel Sarkisovich Karapetyan is a Russian entrepreneur, philanthropist, president and founder of the Tashir Group of companies, which includes more than 200 companies in various sectors of the Russian economy, president of the Tashir Charitable Foundation. Karapetyan was born on August 18, 1965 in the city of Kalinino (now Tashir), Armenian SSR, in a family of teachers: his father is a mathematics specialist, a school principal; his mother is an English teacher. In 1986, he graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. In November 2008, Karapetyan defended his doctoral dissertation on the study of the development of the investment management system in large diversified companies. Since 1986, Karapetyan has been managing the enameled products factory in the city of Kalinino (later renamed Tashir): first he heads the technological service, then the director of the enterprise. Later he bought out the plant and in 1989 transformed it into his own multidisciplinary cooperative "Zenit" for the production of rubber and metal products. In 1992, Karapetyan moved to Russia. In 1991, at the initiative of Samvel Karapetyan, the city of Kalinino in the Lori region was returned to its former name — Tashir. In 1997, the city of Kaluga acquired the company "Kalugaglavsnab", on the basis of which in 1999 the construction and industrial group of companies "Tashir" was created, which gradually includes production, construction, energy assets, supply and sales organizations, networks of shopping centers, hotels, residential buildings, cinemas, retail chains and restaurants — in general, more than two hundred companies in various areas of the Russian economy. In 2000, Karapetyan founded the Tashir Charitable Foundation. In 2003, Karapetyan began his expansion into the Moscow real estate market with the purchase of a plot of land, where two years later the first modern multifunctional shopping and entertainment center "RIO" opens on Moscow's Sevastopol Avenue (today it is the largest network of shopping and entertainment centers in Russia). In 2006, Samvel Karapetyan was included for the first time in the "Rating of the largest real estate owners" of Forbes magazine with an income received from renting commercial real estate of $29 million, which more than doubled in 2007 to $67 million. Since 2010, Samvel Karapetyan has been included in the rating of the "Richest businessmen in Russia" according to Forbes magazine. In 2015, he took the 26th place, having risen by 65 lines since the first entry into the rating and increased his fortune by more than 5 times. Since 2017, Karapetyan has been included in the ranking of the 500 richest people in the world by Bloomberg.
