Profile

Creation and development of Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company (UGMK) began in March of 1998. It was a pooling of interests of the country’s major metallurgical plants: Alchevskiy Metallurgical Plant, Dneprovskiy Metallurgical Plant, Donetskiy Metal-Rolling Plant, Karamatorskiy Metallurgical Plant and Dnepropetrovsk Tube Works, Slavsant and others. At present, UGMK is a network of 14 dealers located in the major industrial cities of the country, and 3 metal trading centers in Kiev.

UGMK is the first and only metal trader whose quality management is ISO 9001-2000 certified. In 2002 the company introduced a new brand - “The First Metal Supermarket”. This marketing move turned out to be a success, and now the company is mostly goes by this name among its retail customers.

Recently the company tapped the construction supplies market. In 2002 UMGK spawned a new branch – Fastex, supplier of European construction materials. Besides, the company has engaged in construction business. Since 2003 the company controls the majority stock of Kievstroy-6 construction company. UMGK has not confined itself to the domestic market: GCB Centrostal Bydgoszcz S.A., the biggest metal trading network in Poland is also part of the company.
