Founded in 1992, Chilean generator Guacolda operates four 152MW thermo plants at its Huasco complex in region III, totaling a gross power output of 608MW (550MW net power capacity), and 170km of transmission lines linked to Chile's central SIC grid. At end-2009, the firm met 60% of the Norte Chico region's power demand and supplies 100% of distributor Conafe's power needs. It contributed 7.2% of the central SIC grid's gross generation (3,207GWh) or 4.0% of its effective installed capacity. Guacolda is the country's largest importer of bituminous and sub-bituminous coal. Chilean generator AES Gener and fuel distributor Copec are shareholders in the firm.
In 2015 was merged by Guacolda Energia SA.
