Profile

FertiNitro (Fertilizantes Nitrogenados de Oriente) is Venezuela's largest fertilizer company, producing around 1.5m tons of urea per year. It was nationalised by Chavez government in October 2010, having previously been owned by state-run petrochemicals company Petroquimica de Venezuela - Pequiven (35%), U.S.-based Koch Industries (35%), a unit of Italy's Eni Saipem - Snamprogetti S.p.A. (20%), and local brewer and food company Polar (10%). Now it is a subsidiary of Pequiven which is itself a subsidiary of PDVSA. FertiNitro is one of the world's main producers of nitrogen fertilizer, with daily production capacity of 3,600 tonnes of ammonia and 4,400 tonnes of urea.
