The Group's principal activity is to providing reinsurance services worldwide. It operates in two segments: Validus Re and Talbot. The Validus Re segment conducts business is property, marine and specialty which includes aerospace, terrorism, life and accident & health and workers' compensation catastrophe. The Talbot segment focuses on a wide range of marine and energy, war, political violence, commercial property, financial institutions, contingency, bloodstock & livestock, accident & health and treaty classes of business. The Group concentrates more on first-party risks, which are property risks and other reinsurance lines commonly referred to as short-tail in nature due to the brief period between the occurrence and payment of a claim. The Group is conducting operations worldwide through its wholly owned subsidiary Validus Re. It operates worldwide mainly in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Latin America and Caribbean.
