Daily Insight-In the news: Trade & transport stats, grain export quotas, minority squeeze-out adopted, IUD
A number of economic indicators released by the State Statistics Committee this week have provided us with the background to assess the dynamics of Ukraine\'s economy and conclude that the industrial recovery is underway in the country, and domestic demand is catching up. Cargo turnover volume rose 6.3% YoY in 11M10, and tonnage rose 8.7% in the same period, indicating the recovery of economic activity in Ukraine. However, total passenger transportation volume was still 0.8% lower YoY in 11M10, but at the same time, the volume of air passenger traffic, which is the best proxy for economic activity dynamics, among other kinds of transport, went up 19.1% in the same period. Construction activity has been steadily growing in size throughout the year, and in 11M10 stood 8.2% lower than in 11M09. This is significant progress from January\'s results, when the volume of construction works was 24% lower YoY.
