It provides retail electric service to approximately 470,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in the city of Indianapolis and neighboring cities, towns and communities, and adjacent rural areas within Indiana. The company was founded in 1892 and is based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis Power & Light Company is a subsidiary of IPALCO Enterprises, Inc.
