Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra is located in the central part of the West Siberian Plain, one of the largest plains in the world. The two largest rivers of Russia flow through the territory of the okrug from south to north - the Ob and Irtysh. In the north, the district borders with the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, in the north-west with the Komi Republic, in the south-west with the Sverdlovsk region, in the south with the Tobolsk and Uvat districts of the Tyumen region, in the southeast and east with the Tomsk region and Krasnoyarsk Territory. The specifics of the economy of the district is associated with the discovery of the richest oil and gas fields here.
