Westfield America, Inc. operates as a real estate investment trust, specializing in enclosed shopping centers. Through its controlling interest in Westfield America Limited Partnership and its other subsidiaries and affiliates, it owns interests in 28 super-regional shopping centers, 8 regional shopping centers, three power centers, and 12 separate department store properties, which are net leased to The May Department Stores Company and certain other real estate investments. Its portfolio of Westfield Shoppingtowns includes clusters of shopping centers in major markets in the east coast, midwest, and west coast regions of US. It has shopping centers in nine states, which comprise 37.7 million square feet of retail and office space. The company is externally managed and advised by Westfield Holdings Limited, an affiliate of the Company and an Australian public company. In May, Westfield formed a joint venture with JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management Inc. for Westfield Shoppingtown Montgomery in Bethesda, Maryland. Westfield America, Inc. was formerly known as CenterMark Properties, Inc. The company was founded in 1924 and is based in Los Angeles, California. Westfield America, Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Westfield America Trust.
