Comafi S.A. started its operations in 1984 as a successful open-market agent, specialized in trading public bonds, swaps and other financial transactions. Since then, it has grown steadily.
In 1992 it purchased the Argentine Banco di Napoli branch, becoming then a whole-sale banking entity with an active participation in stock and bond trading, corporate and investment banking, and capital market transactions. It became a leader in trust management and in the development of corporate financial products based on trusts.
Its outstanding performance in the local capital market has been renewed over the latest years through reorganization and debt placement transactions in pesos for important organizations, such as Edesur, Edenor, and Camuzzi Gas Pampeana, among others.
The steady growth experienced by Banco Comafi was leveraged based on its expansion in the retail financial sector. In 2002, it opened one of the most important networks of branches in the city of Buenos Aires and in the greater Buenos Aires area. It played a significant role as a private national bank in the recovery of the Argentine financial activity after the 2001-2002 crisis.
Grupo Comafi has made important acquisitions based on its growth strategy as a provider of speedy and flexible financial services. The following are some of the major acquisitions made due to their volume and importance: Providian Bank credit card portfolio; The Capita Corporation, ranked No. 1 in the leasing business in Argentina; the majority interest in Crediclick, the first personal loan company which is 100% traded through the Web; and Microlending Argentina (Mila), one of the most specialized companies in the pledge loan industry.
