Bangladesh is a densely populated South Asian economy with Dhaka as its capital. Bengali is the official language, and the Bangladeshi taka (BDT) is the national currency. The economy is driven by manufacturing and exports, particularly garments and textiles, supported by remittances, agriculture, services, construction, pharmaceuticals, and financial services.
The Bangladesh bonds market is one of the more developed fixed-income markets among the countries covered here. It includes Treasury bills, Bangladesh Government Treasury Bonds (BGTBs), floating-rate Treasury bonds, government investment sukuk, and corporate debt instruments. Bangladesh Bank operates the Government Securities Order Matching (GSOM) platform, which provides live trading information for government securities.
The Bangladesh government bond market includes Treasury bills and longer-term government bonds issued through auctions. Government securities are traded in the secondary market, including through the GSOM system, while government bonds are also available through the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
The corporate segment includes bank debt, corporate bonds, debentures, and other fixed-income instruments. Banks and financial institutions represent important participants, while corporate issuance remains smaller than the sovereign segment. The development of Bangladeshi bonds is supported by the country's growing financial system and expanding institutional investor base.
For international investors, Bangladeshi government bonds provide exposure to a large and rapidly developing South Asian economy. Important drivers include export performance, remittances, foreign-exchange reserves, inflation, monetary policy, banking-sector conditions, and infrastructure investment. Bangladesh bonds therefore offer exposure to one of South Asia's larger domestic debt markets.
