Germany is a country in Central Europe. The nation's capital and largest city is Berlin, and its financial centre is Frankfurt. Germany has the largest economy in Europe. As a global leader in several industrial, scientific and technological sectors, it is both one of the world's largest exporter and importer of goods.
German bond market is one of the world's largest and most liquid markets for sovereign debt. German Government securities are represented by Treasury discount paper (Bubill) (with a maturity of 12 months), Federal Treasury notes (Schatz) (with a maturity of two years, followed by five-year Federal notes (Bobl)) and Federal bonds (Bund) (with maturities of ten and 30 years) issued by the Federal Government. Since 2006, the Federal Government has also been issuing inflation-linked securities with maturities of 5 to 30 years. There are also green bonds in the German bond market issued by the Federal Government. In Germany, corporate bonds still play a subordinated role compared to other ways of debt financing. In Germany, corporations still prefer borrowing capital in the traditional way, i.e. directly from their house bank instead of raising funds through capital markets. Nominal and inflation-linked German Government securities are traded on German stock exchanges, numerous international electronic trading platforms and on the over-the-counter (OTC) market. |
