Indonesia’s bond market accommodates the needs of both local and foreign investors. Bond market of Indonesia is represented by government and corporate securities. Government securities are represented by Government Bonds (SUN) and Sharia Government Bonds (SBSN) issued by the Indonesian government. Government Bonds (SUN) consist of Government Bonds - Obligasi Negara (ON) and Treasury Bills - Surat Perbendaharaan Negara (SPN). Obligasi Negara (ON) is government debt securities with a period of more than 12 months with a coupon or discount based interest payment, while SPN is government bond with period up to 12 months with discount based interest payment. Sovereign Shari’a securities called Surat Berharga Syariah Negara (SBSN) or Sukuk Negara, are bonds issued by the government based on Shari’a principles in rupiah or foreign currency. SBSN Retail (Sukuk Retail) is SBSN that sold to private or individual Indonesia citizen through Selling Agent (broker). Project Based Sukuk (PBS) and State Treasury Bills – Sharia (SPN-S) are government sharia securities (sukuk) which issuance is aimed at financing government projects. The government also issues Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Bonds to finance social and environmental projects and Samurai Bonds denominated in Japanese yen. The corporate sector is represented by Corporate Bonds and Medium-Term Note (MTN), Corporate Sukuk, Convertible Bonds and Green Bonds. Both government and corporate bonds are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). They are mostly traded Over-the-Counter (OTC). |
