Cbonds Information Agency published OVGZ Trader League Table for Q3 2015

December 04, 2015 | Cbonds

Cbonds Information Agency, within the framework of cooperation agreement with SRO Ukrainian Stock Market Traders Association, published OVGZ (domestic government bond) Trader League Table of Ukraine for Q3, 2015.

The top three by the transaction volume in the stock exchange and OTC market remained unchanged in Q3 2015, as compared to Q2 2015. Oschadbank maintains the leadership, having increased its market share to 27.14%. Ukrgazbank rose to the second place by doubling its market share (22.04%). ICU Company ranked third with the market share decreased by 0.3% to 17.29%. The level of market consolidation continues growing: the share of TOP-10 amounted to 97.90% (which is 2% more than in Q2 2015).

ICU Company is also in the lead in the Trader League Table by the number of transactions in the stock exchange and OTC market; its market share in Q3 2015 is 32.18% (+8.15%). The second position is occupied by First Ukrainian International Bank (FUIB), which raised its market share by 6.25% to 21.85%. OTP Bank (Ukraine) rose to a higher position and took the third line with the market share of 10.73%. The Trader League Table by the number of transactions also shows the strengthening of market concentration: the share of TOP-10 traders amounted to 91.89%, which is 5.48% higher than in Q1.

“The strengthening of market concentration can be connected with the reduction of number of its operators, which is now a strong (and a growing) tendency in all segments of domestic stock market, - Head of Council of Association “Ukrainian Stock Traders” Sergey Antonov commented. – During the period from January to February, the number of licensed traders reduced by 16%, the number of stock exchange members reduced equivalently; moreover, stock exchanges also face revocations of license. Thus, it’s no surprise that the share of stock market in the total trading volume of financial instruments has reduced considerably for some time past – from 27-29% in 2013-2014 to 14% for 9 months of 2015.

From January to September 2015, the stock market narrowed to UAH 237 bln, i.e. by 49% as compared to the same period in 2014, when the trading volume reached UAH 465.45 bln. At the same time, the OTC market rose by 23% (from UAH 1155 to 1621 bln). In view of Commission’s plans to lay extra tax on exchange deals revenue, we can suppose that the tendency to conduct deals off the organized market will increase.

The share of OVGZ in the total trading volume on Ukrainian Stock Exchanges amounted to 89% for 9 months of 2015, which is by 1% more than in the previous year.
According to National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC), the volume of OVGZ stock trades for the period from January to September 2015 amounted to UAH 209.5 bln, which is by 50% less than in the same period last year.
Besides, the volume of stock trades of other financial instruments also reduced. The exceptions are deposit and optional certificates – their trading volume rose by 4.6-6.5 times respectively. The volume of exchange deals of NBU deposit certificates for 9 months of 2015 (UAH 4.7 bln) is almost similar to the volumes of exchange trading of securities (UAH 4.9 bln), and for 10 months of 2015 NBU deposit certificates are in the lead (UAH 5.5 bln vs. UAH 5.2 bln). The share of exchange contracts in the total amount of OVGZ deals in the secondary market is stably high (7% higher than in the same period last year). According to NBU, the number of fulfilled exchange purchase agreements for 9 months of 2015 amounted to 4140 (82.9% of the total amount), OTC-traded – 206 (4.1%), two-way quoting deals – 16 (0.3%), interbank REPO deals (mostly exchange ones) – 634 (12.7%).”
